The selection process has ended and planning is already in full swing: four projects from the media cluster’s 'Call for Idea Sketches’ conducted in spring, have been selected by a jury and are now about to be realised. While unique in their design, all projects follow the greater goal of promoting cross-border journalism through innovative formats, initiatives and activities that enable collaboration and networking between the media alumni of the Robert Bosch Stiftung.
We are happy to introduce to you the four selected projects:
1) WEBINAR SERIES: DATA JOURNALISM
Led by Sonja Ernst, Sunaina Kumar, P.J. George, and Harikishan Sharma from the Indo-German Media Network, this online-based project will take place in autumn/winter of this year. It involves a sequence of five webinars focusing on important public national and international data sources on the web. Each webinar will be presented by a different data expert or journalist.
2) RESEARCH TRIP: PODCAST CAPITAL NEW YORK CITY
The buzzling city of New York City and its podcast experts are the focal point of this project by Thomas Reintjes and Jelena Prtoric. During a trip to New York, the participants will meet key figures of the podcast universe and learn how they are re-shaping the world of radio. Hearing about their lessons learned, the participants will gain valuable insights into how to give podcasting more momentum in their home countries. The trip is scheduled for November of this year.
3) NETWORK CONFERENCE: BALKAN REFUGEE ROUTE
This conference initiated by a project team, consisting of Ann-Kathrin Stracke, Dóra Diseri, Juliane Löffler, Ivan Fischer, Asili Sözbilir, and Dusan Mladenovic will take place in October 2017 in the city of Belgrade. Through workshops, excursions, and discussions the conference will cover aspects such as current developments along the Balkan route, media coverage of refugees in each of the countries, Government’s approaches to refugees and ways to improve reporting on refugees.
4) ROLE PLAYING AND DEBATING GAME: SCENARIO EXPLORATION EXPERT TEAM
Created by Ralf Grötker and set to launch in autumn 2017, the Scenario Exploration Expert Team is a role-playing and debating game, involving the development and evaluation of scenarios for new financing models of journalism. Upon completion of the game, a paper containing the key findings of and information from the game will be shared with the wider network.
Out of 40 initial idea sketches that were submitted from across the world, twelve projects were taken forward to the final voting roung, for which each project team had to hand in a comprehensive proposal and project description. Based on these proposals, a jury of six, consisting of four alumni from different media programs, supported by representatives from the International Alumni Center (iac Berlin) and the Robert Bosch Stiftung made the final decision on the winning projects.
Although only a selection of ideas made it through to the final stage, the submissions have highlighted the huge potential of the network and provided us with a wide range of ideas for the future of the Bosch Alumni Network. Thanks to everyone who participated in this call for their great ideas and efforts!
